As the mother gently washes one, the others patiently await their turns in this secluded hideaway of gnarled roots and soft pine needles. "I came across a quiet woodland spot like this on a research trip," the artist comments. "It was a place, my imagination told me, that was an ideal retreat for a shy, secretive animal like the cougar."
